I listen to music a lot when I am on my computer, which is usually a majority of my day. During meditation, when I begin to clear my mind or focus on one specific thing I can usuallly hold it for a little bit, but after a minute to several minutes a song I have listened to recently will just start playing in my head. I try to not pay attention to it, but sometimes it can be distracting if I try to block it out.
Should I work on trying to block out the music, work on trying to accept it, or something else? Any help or advice will be appreciated. ![]() |

Keep trying. Try to think stuff like "Cool song, I'll listen to it later" and then go back to what you were doing. Don't be to harsh on yourself, but try to focus on one thing. It will probably take a while to get good at. |

I agree with DanielH,
You should just bring your attention back to the object of meditation instead of giving attention to the song in your head, cause then you are only giving it more energy. Just ignore it,. If your concentration on the object becomes steady enough, the song will dissapear. Try not to notice it. |

If you try to ignore a thought, it only tries to come back even more. Like an itch, if you try to ignore the itching feeling it comes back 10 fold, eh? So acknowledge the thought and let it pass.
