Everywhere I read that shields are (usually) imagined as shells. I imagine it takes quite an amount of energy to keep up a shell around an average(~180 cm/5'10") person, so I had an idea: why not restrict the shield to your skin, or maybe just an inch or two from it. This would allow the user to make the shield more durable, as the energy spared by restricting the shield could be used to repair and maintain it longer.

As I haven't really mastered shields yet(all right, I suck at shielding, I can't bring one up:( ), could someone please try this, and relay what advantages and disadvantages it has?

Thank you in advance!

That shield is actually described in the shielding article. Thats the beginners shield they recommend. Its not very strong though.

Article is here: art-outline-to-shielding.html
It doesn't take that much energy, the biggest problem seems to be keeping it to stay there.

The energy used to sustain a shield just surrounding your field is barely noticeable, generally. Wouldn't think about it, it's just not enough energy to worry about.

I use a combo of a bunch of different sites. The one described that Mad_Hatter linked to is the inner most one. Kind of like a last resort shield.
