I'm 100% sure they did the hammer/feather test on the moon. on Wed Jan 24, 2007 5:17 pm

No, a feather does drop at the same rate as a pencil/bowling ball/anvil/<insert random heavy object>. The reason why they don't hit the ground at the same time if you go outside and test it is because of air resistance. If you were to go to the moon and drop them, they would hit the ground at the same time, because there is no air to slow down the feather.. This law applies to everything with mass in any area where there is gravity.

Are you sure all of those things really were facts?

As far as I know, everyone used to think the Earth was flat. But they did not have proof. We have proof that the Earth is mostly round.

It was considered a fact at the time, yes. And now it has been disproven. Similarly, some of Newton's work was taken as fact when he came up with his theories, but now we know some of his theories to be false (not all of them, though). Besides, it was just an example.

I’m glad you could clarify that before anyone else, Eldibs.

Now another quote

“If something is not known, it is as if it does not exist. If one day all knowledge of me is gone, what is the point in me existing now?”

How do you truly know that the world is round? Have you seen it from far enough away? For all we know, all those astronauts could be lying, or the roundness could be an illusion.

And now for another quote

“a persons only true weakness is there lack of will to work on there weaknesses”

Just look far into the horizon of any ocean/lake. You can see the masts of ships, or "peaks" yet not the actual ship. If the world was flat you would be able to see the entire ship. That's how it was originally discovered. Hence, round world Smile

It would have been clarified first, but my internet decided to take something like 15 minutes to post my reply. When I had it typed, there was no response.

Now for another quote...

Quote:
The problem's plain to see... too much technology. Machines to save our lives, machines dehumanize.

And as a pre-emptive response to to the obvious upcoming question, yes, I did just quote the song "Mr. Roboto" by Styx.

Have you all forgotten that the greeks have thought of the world being round ages before Columbus? And they even thought of the mass of the ship changing while going out to sea. But these things were never really explored and the turth was never found out.

I heard of a Union for the flat earth still. Confused

Laughing , I like this quote.

Hey Jake I like this one, but have a different version of it. I'm very confident it said "There are only 2 things that are infinite. The universe, and music" -Albert E.

I'm wondering where you got that from. Mabye I'm wrong, mabye there are a couple versions....but I'm sure I know another that was just like yours but it wasn't by einstein. "Two things are infinite: Human stupidity, and the universe; and I'm not so sure of the former"

Anyways...

"Failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently."

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right!"

Laughing Hehe, this made me giggle, whether intentional or not, but the two "there"s are spelled wrong (should be their), which sort of contradicts the quote.........I'm suprised no one said anything yet. Laughing

Quote:
"Wisdom is not knowledge. Knowledge is borrowed; wisdom is yours. Knowledge
can be gathered from a library; you can contain the whole library in your
mind. Still you will remain as ignorant as before; in fact, you will be far
more ignorant than before because now the load is bigger. Wisdom comes from
your own heart; it is the voice of our own inner being. It happens in
meditation: when you are silent you start hearing the still, small voice
within. That is wisdom." OSHO
